I Love to Tell the Story

The words of this wonderful old hymn have been on my heart lately,
encouraging and convicting me, so I thought I would share them.

"Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns
and spiritual songs, singing and making melody
in your heart to the Lord."
- Ephesians 5:19

I love to tell the story
Of unseen things above,
Of Jesus and His glory,
Of Jesus and His love.
I love to tell the story,
Because I know 'tis true;
It satisfies my longings
As nothing else can do.

Refrain:
I love to tell the story,
'Twill be my theme in glory,
To tell the old, old story
Of Jesus and His love.

I love to tell the story;
More wonderful it seems
Than all the golden fancies
Of all our golden dreams.
I love to tell the story,
It did so much for me;
And that is just the reason
I tell it now to thee.

I love to tell the story;
'Tis pleasant to repeat
What seems, each time I tell it,
More wonderfully sweet.
I love to tell the story,
For some have never heard
The message of salvation
From God's own holy Word.

I love to tell the story,
For those who know it best
Seem hungering and thirsting
To hear it like the rest.
And when, in scenes of glory,
I sing the new, new song,
'Twill be the old, old story
That I have loved so long.
- Katherine Hankey

"Oh that men would praise the Lord
for His goodness, and for His wonderful
works to the children of men!"
- Psalm 107:8, 15, 21, 31

  1. What a wonderful reminder of how precious the story of Christ's love is! Often times we can get caught up in our daily lives and lose track of what our priorities should be! (2 Cor. 4:18) I especially love that 2nd verse: "I love to tell the story; More wonderful it seems
    Than all the golden fancies
    Of all our golden dreams." wow!! Such profound words...thanks for sharing and reminding us of how precious that story is and how important it should be in our lives.:)

    1. That is one reason I love the old hymns -- they have such a powerful way of expressing Biblical truths. It is so easy for us to let the world and daily cares creep in, and before we know it, our priorities are rearranged and we have taken our focus off Christ. We should be thrilled everyday with the wonderful story of Christ's love for us, excited to share it with others.
